The “BD House” project in La Garriga, Spain, is the first of a series of single-family homes designed by Vilalta Architects to prioritise environmental and economic sustainability.
Vilalta’s design philosophy is to link the old with the new, co-opting and updating the best thinking of past traditions to produce modern buildings that are both profoundly respectful of the past and searingly contemporary, saying that “we love nature and care about people.”
For the BD House project, Vilalta Architects used Archicad and BIMx for site supervision. Cinema 4D, which is already built into Archicad, was used for rendering, while BIMx was used for client presentations and communication with the site managers.
They’ve been using Archicad for about two years. They chose Archicad after conducting research and finding that it was the best MacOS solution. They have six Archicad licences and three MEP packages on their ten workstations. For 2D documentation, they used AutoCAD, and for 3D modelling, they used SketchUp, Rhino, and 3ds Max.
According to Candela Juan, Project Manager at Vilalta Architects, BIM enables them to model the entire structure as well as the MEP in 3D, eliminating overlapping issues on site. It’s crucial to avoid surprises, particularly in a modular structure constructed in a factory and installed on site.
The project’s most notable aspect is its material, which is made entirely of CLT — laminated wood — and serves as both the foundation and the final finish of the building. On its own, wood building has a long-term environmental cycle. Its dry building speeds up the proc必利勁 ess and eliminates waste on the job site.
Vilalta Architects used the following workflow for the BD House project: 3D modelling of the house with Archicad; optimization of the library of materials and equipment with brand and specifications; construction information from sections; design of facilities with MEP tools (using the MEP Routing function, they drew the facilities from a 2D scheme, avoiding potential collisions);visualisation on site thanks to the BIMx tool and mak犀利士 es to illustrate each room to the customers, the contractor, and subcontractors; list of elements such as doors and windows according to categories (these lists were very helpful in creating the bill of quantities faster and more accurately); list of elements such as doors and windows according to categories (these lists were very helpful in creating the bill of quantities faster and more accurately); list of elements such as doors and windows according to categories (these lists were very helpful in creating the bill of quantities faster and more accurately); Plans can be modified easily using the publish settings, and IFC export can be used to communicate with other specialties.
